The construction of the Ruang Tsebo Primary School in Clocolan is progressing well. Progress on site is at 36% and proves to be satisfactory even to our Inspectorate at “our” regional office in Thabo Mofutsanyana.
The project is billed to be executed within an 18 month period having started in February 2017, it is set for its technical completion in October this year, 2018. “We are pulling all strings to make sure that we meet the October deadline so that we can hand-over the product to the Client, Department of Education,” said Project Leader, Thobela Mthembu from the our Bethlehem office.
As a contributor to job creation and skills transfer in the implementation and execution of infrastructure projects, the Department has managed to create about 26 work opportunities in the area including those for the local businesses.
“In the coming months, we are likely to see the commencement of floor covering, ceilings and sanitary installation, commencement of painting, finalisation of the floor at platform 03 including plastering,” Mme Mthembu added. The implementation of work in these disciplines will take progress to over a 50% mark which according to Mme Mthembu is satisfactory to meet the October deadline.
The project has opened doors to the young and old in terms of work opportunities. A total of about 12 students from the Central University of Technology – CUT are conducting their practical on Civil and Electrical Engineering for them to receive first hand practical experience of what they were taught in class.
One, Mapallo Sello a CUT Civil Engineering Trainee finds the experience, interesting and informative. “I have learnt a lot from this project, it has taught me to think on my feet and find solutions that will work for everyone when challenges prevail,” Sello alluded. Some of her day-to-day tasks include, administration at the site office, oversee and conduct quality checks, placing of orders, assist the Site Manager with certain site tasks, assist the Safety Office with certain responsibilities and overseeing the store room activity.
The composition of the Ruag Tsebo Primary School boasts with a biology lab and ablution blocks, Classrooms & Store, HOD Office, Science lab and ablutions, Media centre, Guardhouse, Admin Block, Dining nutrition centre, Change rooms, Grade R, Multipurpose Hall and Sportsfield.
