One of the mandates of the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure is to deal with security management for interdepartmental buildings. For that reason MEC D. Kotzee made an announcement on 22 May 2018 that about 179 security learnership participants will be contracted for a period of 2-years.
These participants were granted employment contracts starting from 01 June 2018. They were trained in asset & reaction, access control and patrol. The delighted participants from different regions in the Province gathered at Adelaide Tambo Hall in Bloemfontein for an official induction and signing of contracts on the same day the announcement was made.
“I’m so proud to lead this historical occasion and I attribute this day to patience, hard-work and dedication. I therefore, call on each of you to do your work with pride, ethical conduct and great determination,” said MEC Kotzee describing the induction as a historical occasion that will change the lives of many families.
The Head of Department, Gadija Brown urged the newly appointed security personnel to do their duties on a high level of professionalism, continue to learn, develop and keep themselves informed. “Remember you are now representative of the Free State Provincial Government and your conduct is a reflection of this Government. As a mirror of the Department you must execute your duties with commitment and excellence,” said HoD Brown.
This programme is set to respond to the National Development Plan (NDP) Vision 2030, which among others seeks to eliminate poverty by increasing skills and creating sustainable employment.
