The Department of Public Works and Infrastructure, under the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP), hosted a two day National Youth Service (NYS) Provincial Coordinators Meeting that brought together representatives from all Provincial Departments as well as Provincial stakeholders from the Department of Labour.
Day one focused on strengthening partnerships, sharing ideas on how to establish collaborative initiatives, and identifying opportunities to implement NYS programmes across the Provinces. The discussions highlighted the programme’s commitment to empowering young people with practical skills, enhancing their employability, and fostering social cohesion in communities nationwide.
Day two concluded with a site visit to the Medfontein Building, where delegates monitored the progress of work carried out by artisan participants involved in the programme. The visit provided an opportunity to observe the practical impact of the NYS initiative and to engage with participants on face-to-face basis, gaining hands on experience through the programme.
